Montreal fans ready to cheer for Ross at Scotties

The final piece of the puzzle for the 2014 Scotties Tournament of Hearts fell into place at the Quebec women’s provincial curling playdowns, Jan. 18 in Val-d’Or.

Allison Ross of Dollard-des-Ormeaux, situated just outside Montreal, defeated Kim Mastine of Sherbrooke 7-4 in the championship final to earn the last berth in the 12-team field for the Scotties, Feb. 1-9 in Montreal’s Maurice-Richard Arena. Ross, who represented Quebec at the 2013 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Kingston, Ont., will lead teammates Melissa Gannon, Brittany O’Rourke and Pamela Nugent in the Canadian women’s curling championship. Gannon and Nugent are new additions to this year’s Team Quebec lineup. It marks a fourth appearance for Ross at the Scotties. In 1999, she represented Ontario as lead for Kim Gellard, and threw third stones for the Brenda Nicholls team in 2005. “You Gotta Be There” when Montreal welcomes the best women’s teams in the country for the 2014 Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
