Biography / Biographie:

Well known at the Truro Curling Club, William Gatchell was heavily involved at the junior level.

He coached the 1980 Canadian junior woman’s championship team skipped by Kay Smith; four provincial high school girls’ teams (1968, ’72, ’79, ’80); five provincial high school boys’ teams (1966, ’74, ’82, ’90); man’s and women’s Canada Games teams in 1971; the Nova Scotia junior men’s champions of 1978, ’80 and ’81; the Nova Scotia junior mixed champions of 1989; and the Prince Edward Island women’s champion team of 1993.

In addition, Gatchell is a course conductor and regional coordinator for the provincial development program, was honorary chairman of the 1994 Pepsi Juniors at Truro, and coached numerous players who achieved national championship status, including Kay (Smith) Zinck, Cathy Caudle and Craig Burgess.
