The women’s world championship was born in Perth, Scotland in 1979, and it was just a year later that a Canadian team won the event. In 1980, Saskatchewan’s Marj Mitchell—with third Nancy Kerr, second Shirley McKendry and lead Wendy Leach—was victorious with a record of 9-1.
