Behind every great skip there is always an outstanding third and Rick played that support role for Al Hackner from 1980 until 1988. Rick Lang won his first Brier in 1975 playing third for Bill Tetley, representing Northern Ontario. During Lang’s nine seasons with Hackner, he captured two Briers and world championships. Lang has also enjoyed a reasonable amout of success as a skip having guided Northern Ontario early to both the 1976 and 1991 Briers. In addition, he was the skip of the 1981Canadian Mixed championship team. In total, Rick has made eight Brier appearances, captured four Canadian and two world curling titles. Lang’s quiet, gentlemanly approach has twice earned him recognition by his fellow competitors. He won the Colin Campbell sportsmanship award at the 1982 world curling championship and in 1991 won a similar recognition at the Labatt Brier when he was awarded the Ross Harstone trophy.
