Biography / Biographie:

James Tyre was born in Largs. Ayrshire, Scotland, in 1807 and came to Canada in 1825. For many years he was engaged in the dry goods business, first as a member of the firm of Scott, Tyre & C0. and subsequently as the principal of the house of Tyre, Colquhoun & Co. For a long period he was a keen curler and for nearly 40 years, a member of the Montreal club. He was one of the “Auld Callants” team consisting of Col. Dyde. Sir Hugh Allan, Hon.
