Curling Canada – 2015 Scotties Tournament of Hearts

Long road to the Scotties for Hastings

Julie Hastings lost the championship final of the 1995 Ontario women’s curling playdowns to Alison Goring at just 19 years of age. Two decades later, determination ultimately paid off and the Thornhill skip finally has her chance to compete on the national stage.

Hastings defeated seven-time Scotties veteran Sherry Middaugh in the 1 vs 2 Page playoff, and again in the final of this year’s Ontario playdowns, contested Jan. 19-25 in Penetanguishene.

Remarkably, after twenty years, the entire 1995 team is still intact. Hasting’s twin sister Christy Trombley, Stacey Smith and Katrina Collins will join her on the journey to Moose Jaw, Feb. 14-22, for the 2015 Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

The Hastings squad came one win away from realizing their dream last year, losing to Alli Flaxey in the final of the 2014 provincial playdowns.
