It was a Northern Ontario evening as the 2016 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship wrapped up with the awards banquet Saturday at the Weston Golf and Country Club in Toronto.
A few hours after winning the bronze medal, three Northern Ontario players were named to the tournament all-star team, and the team swept the player-voted Sportsmanship awards.
The all-stars were based on cumulative shooting percentages during the round-robin draw, and it featured Northern Ontario skip Colin Koivula (87 per cent), second Chris Briand (87 per cent) and lead Amanda Gates (88 per cent). Alberta third Sarah Wilkes (88 per cent), fresh off winning the gold medal earlier in the day, rounded out the squad. Koivula and Briand were also all-stars last year at the 2015 Canadian Mixed in North Bay, Ont.
Meanwhile, Briand and his wife, Northern Ontario vice-skip Oye-Sem Won Briand, won the Sportsmanship Awards after a player vote. Won Briand was a Sportsmanship winner last year in North Bay.
