Epping brings new line-up to Home Hardware Canada Cup

The 2018 Home Hardware Canada Cup comes to Affinity Place in Estevan, Sask., Dec. 5-9. Get to know the teams that will compete for the prestigious title:

Team Epping

Already a formidable opponent, John Epping has taken on even more experience through a lineup change for his next Olympic quadrennial run.

Skip Epping and third Mathew Camm – who together won the 2018 Ontario Tankard and then recorded an impressive 9-2 record before bowing out in the playoffs at the 2018 Tim Hortons Brier – have added long-time best friends and teammates Craig Savill and Brent Laing to the team.

Former front-enders for the successful Glenn Howard team, lead Savill and second Laing provide much experience to the Epping crew.

It showed at the recent Canadian Beef Masters of Curling event in Truro, N.S., where the foursome earned top honours, defeating Kevin Koe in the championship final. Along the way Team Epping also downed two-time world champion Niklas Edin of Sweden (twice), Sault Ste. Marie’s Brad Jacobs, Yannick Schwaller of Switzerland, and avenged an earlier round-robin loss to Scotland’s Ross Paterson in running up a 7-1 record.

Earlier this season, the Epping crew also ran up a perfect 8-0 mark to capture the AMJ Campbell Shorty Jenkins Classic where the team defeated the likes of Howard, Paterson, Jacobs and Olympic champion John Shuster of the United States.

Team Epping is still coming together, however, and that showed in early November at the Grand Slam of Curling’s Tour Challenge in Thunder Bay, Ont., where they won just one of four games.

Time will tell how far this unit can go and the Home Hardware Canada Cup will be a good test for this team’s cohesiveness.
