The 2018 Home Hardware Canada Cup comes to Affinity Place in Estevan, Sask., Dec. 5-9. Get to know the teams that will compete for the prestigious title:
It didn’t take long for Matt Dunstone to settle back into his role as a skip.
The Manitoba native, who now curls out of Saskatchewan, and his newly-formed team of third Braeden Moskowy, second Catlin Schneider and lead Dustin Kidby are 32-12 heading towards the month of December.
That record includes seven straight victories to claim the DEKALB Superspiel in Morris, Man., in early November, an event in which the team slid off with the top prize. Earlier this season the foursome rattled off an impressive 18-4 run as it works out its kinks with Dunstone – who threw last stone for Steve Laycock last season – back calling the shots.
Team Dunstone would love nothing more than to end Saskatchewan’s lengthy dry spell at the Tim Hortons Brier – one which dates back to 1980 when Rick Folk claimed the national championship.
A two-time Canadian junior champion, Dunstone – at just 23 years of age – has a bright future ahead. The immediate future will toss him a good, solid test at the Home Hardware Canada Cup where his Regina-based team will face Brad Gushue right out of the gate in Draw 1, followed by matchups against Kevin Koe, Brad Jacobs, Brendan Bottcher, Reid Carruthers and John Epping. No free spots on that bingo card, a card which should give him a good read on competition.
