Local organizers worked tirelessly to bring the 2019 Scotties Tournament of Hearts to Cape Breton, and on Friday, fans will have their first opportunity to lay claim to tickets to watch Canada’s best women’s curling teams play for a Canadian championship.
The 2019 Scotties Tournament of Hearts is scheduled for Feb. 16-24 at Centre 200 in Sydney, N.S., and will attract 16 teams who dream of wearing the Maple Leaf at the world championship.
Fans will get their first chance on Friday at 11 a.m. AST to buy tickets to the country’s best-known and most well-attended women’s curling event.
For just $399, fans will have the same great seat for all 23 draws, including medal-round games, plus any necessary tiebreakers.
All ticket packages are subject to standard facility and ticket service fees; mini packages will go on sale in the fall.
Packages will be available online at the Centre 200 box office, curling.ca/tickets or 902-564-2200.
Sydney’s bid included a successful deposit program, as more than 900 fans showed their support for the 2019 Scotties bid by putting money down for full-event passes, so many prime seats have already been snapped up. Ticket-buyers will need to act quickly on Friday to make sure they can purchase the best seats to catch all of the games.
The action off the ice in Sydney next year will be just as hot, as the rollicking party known as the HeartStop Lounge will be a short free shuttle ride from the rink to the Joan Harriss Cruise Pavilion. Along with the opportunity to meet face-to-face with the athletes, the HeartStop Lounge will offer live music, dancing, drinks and food, as well as interactive activities for the entire family.
All 14 Member Associations (10 provinces, three territories and Northern Ontario) will be represented in the main field in Sydney, along with the defending champion as Team Canada — the winner of the 2018 Scotties in Penticton, B.C. The 16th team will come out of the wild-card play-in game on Feb. 15 between the top two teams from the Canadian Team Ranking System that didn’t qualify out of their provincial/territorial championships.
The winning team at the 2019 Scotties will represent Canada at the 2019 World Women’s Curling Championship in Silkeborg, Denmark.
