The Scotties Tournament of Hearts comes to Sydney, N.S.’s, Centre 200 this Feb. 16-24. Get to know the teams that will be competing for the Scotties crown this year.
Nicole Baldwin will make another venture to the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
The veteran skip and her team of vice-skip Hailey Birnie, second Ladene Shaw and lead Helen Strong will represent Yukon at the upcoming national women’s curling championship in Sydney, N.S. The foursome was acclaimed over the weekend.
Baldwin returns to the Scotties after appearing in the pre-qualifying event in 2016 along with Shaw, her lead at the time. B.C. import Steph Jackson-Baier (third) and Rhonda Horte (second) rounded out the team that failed to qualify for the main Scotties draw with a 1-2 record in Grande Prairie, Alta.
Strong appeared in the 2017 Scotties in St. Catharines, Ont., as an alternate for skip Sarah Koltun. Again, the Yukon finished 1-2 in pre-qualifying and did not advance. In 2018 in Penticton, B.C., Chelsea Duncan wore the Yukon colours and finished 0-7 in Pool A play before earning a lone win over Nunavut in the placement round.
