A Royal Welcome for the Ford World Men’s

The Victoria Royals of the Western Hockey League are geared up to face the Vancouver Giants in the home opener of a new season September 22 in the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre – which just happens to be the setting for the 2013 Ford World Men’s Curling Championship. The promotions team for one of curling’s elite events has plans to spend plenty of time at Royals matches, meeting with fans to make sure everyone knows the best shooters in the game will be taking over the arena March 30-April 7 with the men’s world crown on the line. “The Royals created a lot of excitement for Victoria sports enthusiasts during last year’s inaugural season,” notes Keith Dagg, Co-Host Chair for the Ford World Men’s.  “With the uncertainty surrounding the prospects for major league hockey right now, and a new head coach on board, we expect that there’s going to be even more interest this year… and that means we’ll be on the power play to promote the world championship.” The team heads into the regular season schedule with veteran NHL player Dave Lowry directing traffic from behind the bench.  A 1983 draft pick by the Vancouver Canucks, the left-winger moved on to skate for the St. Louis Blues, Florida Panthers, San Jose Sharks and Calgary Flames over the course of a 20-year career. Ford World Men’s volunteers will bring a taste of the roaring game to the arena for home crowds throughout the WHL campaign with tabletop curling competitions, promotional material and ticket information. “You Gotta Be There” when the Victoria Royals take an extended road trip and sliders replace the blades on the ice at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre for the 2013 Ford World Men’s Curling Championship.  Pick up your Full Event ticket packages by clicking here.
