Career Opportunity: General Manager, Thistle Curling Club

The Thistle Curling Club, a well established, 8 sheet club in the heart of Edmonton with a strong membership, tremendous volunteer base and an excellent reputation for hosting Provincial and National level events, is accepting applications for the following positions for the 2018-19 season.

General Manager:
A strong communicator with relevant Curling Club experience is preferred. A Sports Management degree would be an asset but not a requirement along with knowledge of grant writing for Not For Profit organisations.

Key Responsibilities 
•Ensure that high levels of service are provided to all curlers and clients, maintain club run league, draw and scheduling of club run leagues, liaise with rental leagues
•Manage the day-to-day, and long term financial aspects of the Thistle Curling Club
•Recommend to the Board of Directors any required improvements or amendments to the Thistle Curling Club’s operations that would contribute to its success.
•Promote and increase the profile of the club and facility through active and ongoing marketing efforts.
•Provide leadership and guidance to volunteer members of the Board of Directors in formulating programs, bonspiels and objectives of the Thistle Curling Club
•See that orders and resolutions of the Board are acted upon
•Assist in recruiting Board and other talent for various volunteer assignments as needed.
•Act as liaison and coordinator with outside professional consultants and resources such as accountants, attorneys, insurance agents, bank officers, contractors
•Maintain the facility
•Respond to emergencies in the facility
•Manage ice technicians and coordinate food services with concession management

Skills & Qualifications 
•Excellent communication skills
•Excellent customer service skills, ability to lead and be part of a team
•Strong organizational skills
•Ability to prioritize
•Ability to relate and communicate with youth, adults and special interest groups
•Business degree and/or hospitality degree/diploma or related experience.
•3+ years managerial experience including supervising staff, scheduling, basic accounting, budget preparation
•Good MS Office skills
•Completion of icemakers course is considered an asset
•Standard First Aid & CPR
