Marie, Ont. slid into his title defence with a 6-3 win over Glenn Howard of Penetanguishene, Ont., in the first game for both teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In other Draw 2 action, Team Chelsea Carey (1-0; Calgary) edged Rachel Homan (1-1; Ottawa) 6-4, Brad Gushue (1-1; St. John\u2019s, N.L) beat Matt Dunstone (1-0; Regina) 9-7 Kerri Einarson (1-0; Gimli, Man.) doubled up Jennifer Jones (0-2; Winnipeg) 10-5 and Tracy Fleury (1-0; Sudbury, Ont.) walloped Robyn Silvernagle (0-2; North Battleford, Sask.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jacobs scored his winning margin with a three-ender in the fourth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt was a really great start,\u201d said Jacobs. \u201cGlenn played really well but we were just a bit better today. We took advantage of our opportunities. Felt really comfortable with the ice and the guys played well in front of me. It made my job pretty easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s nice to get that first win under our belts and keep going on.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\u2019s a bit more of a target on any defending champions\u2019 back and this event, with all that\u2019s at stake is no exception. Last year\u2019s win was Team Jacobs\u2019s first and the first Home Hardware Canada Cup with Marc Kennedy throwing third rocks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019ve had a really good start to our season so far and we\u2019re playing really well,\u201d said Jacobs. \u201cWe\u2019re just trying to keep that going. Yeah, we\u2019re the defending champions in this event and that\u2019s pretty neat, but that was a year ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTo be honest, that doesn\u2019t mean a whole heck of a lot to myself. We\u2019re just going to go out there, try to play hard and see what happens.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.curling.ca\/2019canadacup\/files\/2019\/11\/DSC_1884-copy.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-499973\"\/><figcaption>Team Carey discusses strategy during its win over Team Homan. (Photo, Curling Canada\/Michael Burns)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings on every team\u2019s radar, Jacobs is no exception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEverybody\u2019s well aware there\u2019s more at stake,\u201d said Jacobs. \u201cThat\u2019s fine. That\u2019s cool. We play in a lot of these big events. We try to approach every single event the exact same way. This event has a bit of a different feel to it. It\u2019s our first Season of Champions event and on TSN and stuff. We love playing in these events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThey seem to bring out the best of us for some reason. We\u2019re just happy\u00a0 to be here and grateful to be playing. Every team is fantastic here. There\u2019s no easy game here. You have to give everybody a lot of respect. In order to win an event like this, you need some luck and some breaks.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Defending Scotties champion Carey seems to have Homan\u2019s number in recent events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou know you have to be the best against them, so maybe you have to come out with a bit of an edge,\u201d said Carey. \u201cHere, that\u2019s every team. We\u2019ll take it. That\u2019s always a game you mark on the calendar. You know it\u2019s going to be a tough one, so first draw, we don\u2019t mind that. It gets you into it right away. The win\u2019s a bonus.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 2019 Home Hardware Canada Cup continues with a draw today at 7 p.m. (all times MST).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
