{"id":536377,"date":"2020-03-08T19:51:55","date_gmt":"2020-03-08T19:51:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staging.curling.ca\/il-en-reste-une\/"},"modified":"2025-04-23T12:13:33","modified_gmt":"2025-04-23T12:13:33","slug":"il-en-reste-une","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.curling.ca\/fr\/blog\/2020\/03\/08\/il-en-reste-une\/","title":{"rendered":"Il en reste une!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-cossette-block-container\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.curling.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/DSC_3235-copy-2-1024x498.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-502414\" \/><figcaption>Brad Gushue and his Newfoundland\/Labrador team are one win away from a third Tim Hortons Brier title (Photo, Curling Canada\/Michael Burns)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"text-align:left\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-algori-social-share-buttons\"><button class=\"bttn-simple bttn-md bttn-primary algori-social-share-buttons-settings algori-social-share-buttons-facebook\"><i class=\"fab fa-facebook-f\"><\/i>\u00a0 \u00a0Facebook<\/button><button class=\"bttn-simple bttn-md bttn-primary algori-social-share-buttons-settings algori-social-share-buttons-twitter\"><i class=\"fab fa-twitter\"><\/i>\u00a0 \u00a0Twitter<\/button><button class=\"bttn-simple bttn-md bttn-primary algori-social-share-buttons-settings algori-social-share-buttons-email\"><i class=\"fas fa-envelope\"><\/i>\u00a0 \u00a0Email<\/button><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">NEWFOUNDLAND\/LABRADOR TO TAKE ON ALBERTA AFTER TIM HORTONS BRIER SEMIFINAL WIN<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">KINGSTON, Ont. \u2013 Brad Gushue of Newfoundland\/Labrador moved within one victory of a third championship in the 2020 Tim Hortons Brier, presented by AGI, with a 7-6 semifinal win over Matt Dunstone of Saskatchewan Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gushue and his St. John\u2019s foursome of third Mark Nichols, second Brett Gallant, lead Geoff Walker, alternate Jeff Thomas and coach Jules Owchar will now play Brendan Bottcher of Alberta (Edmonton) in Sunday evening\u2019s championship final \u2014 7 p.m. ET (TSN\/RDS2)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"2020 Tim Hortons Brier - Media Scrum - Semifinal\" width=\"1300\" height=\"731\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vZIVe_tM_iE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re going to have to play really well, limit our mistakes,\u201d Gushue said of playing Bottcher, who won the round-robin meeting between the teams, 3-2. \u201cThere\u2019s going to be some missed shots, but you need to get the most of it, avoid the big misses, that\u2019s the key for us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They did that for the most part against Saskatchewan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Playing in front of a near-capacity crowd in Leon\u2019s Centre that pushed total attendance for the 10-day event to more than 91,000 with the final yet to come, Newfoundland\/Labrador turned the game its way with three in the second end and controlled most of the ends the rest of the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf we could have found a force anywhere in the first five, obviously that three-ball was the big difference,\u201d said an emotion Dunstone. \u201cAnd we had a shot for two in the first, so we\u2019ll look back at those first couple of ends \u2026 overall they were the more precise team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s tough, to come so close. Woke up this morning thinking we were going to be Brier champions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That honour, said Gushue, will definitely be in the future for the young Saskatchewan team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe\u2019s going to have lots of opportunities at this,\u201d said Gushue. \u201cThere\u2019s no doubt in my mind he\u2019s going to win one and probably multiple ones over the course of his career, he\u2019s that good.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.curling.ca\/2020brier\/files\/2020\/03\/DSC_1432-copy.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-500981\" \/><figcaption>Saskatchewan skip Matt Dunstone, right, directs sweepers Braeden Moskowy, left, and Dustin Kidby during Sunday&rsquo;s semifinal. (Photo, Curling Canada\/Michael Burns)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After Newfoundland\/Labrador got three in the second end by taking advantage of two Saskatchewan runback misses, the teams traded deuces, blanks and singles through to the ninth end. Up 6-4, Gushue elected to give up a deuce to Saskatchewan to ensure last rock in the final end. Having allowed no steals over their last four games, Gushue and crew kept the middle of the house empty in the 10th, leaving Gushue a draw for the win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe felt real confident with hammer,\u201d Gushue said of the ninth-end decision. \u201cEven through that draw went back eight I felt pretty good with draw weight. As long as the guys gave me four-foot I felt I could make it. We\u2019ve had some scary ends this week where it looked like they could get three and we just didn\u2019t want to be in that position. We wouldn\u2019t do that every single time, but we felt it was the right decision.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dunstone, third Braeden Moskowy, second Catlin Schneider, lead Dustin Kidby and coach Adam Kingsbury, were seeking to win Saskatchewan\u2019s first Tim Hortons Brier championship since Rick Folk in 1980. That they didn\u2019t achieve that goal left Dunstone emotionally drained, but proud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn the grand scheme of things it was a hard-fought, heck of a week \u2026 to play championship Sunday at the Brier is pretty darn cool,\u201d he said as he fought to control his emotions. \u201cI\u2019m proud of the guys\u2026we\u2019ve proven we belong.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The semifinal was set up when Saskatchewan finished second in the round-robin competition but lost in the Page 1-2 playoff game, 9-4 to Bottcher and Gushue finished third in the round robin and then beat Brad Jacobs of Northern Ontario 7-4 in Saturday evening\u2019s Page 3-4 playoff game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
