Career Opportunity: Technical Director, Nova Scotia Curling Association

The Nova Scotia Curling Association Technical Director role is a comprehensive, multi-faceted role with broad responsibilities for the overall development of curling in Nova Scotia. This role will be based out of the Nova Scotia Curling Association office (Halifax) working as behalf of our Member Clubs to develop, administer, and grow the sport of Curling in Nova Scotia. Specific areas of responsibility include:

Key Responsibilities

Coach Development

Work with volunteer coach development coordinator to develop and manage the annual plan
Provide Professional Development opportunities
Provide technical advice to clubs
Develop Para-coaches throughout the province

Athlete Development

Work with Canada Games programs
Develop and implement a Youth Curling Series
Develop and implement Youth Curling camps and clinics
Implement Rocks and Rings program
Manage Sport Fair booth
Advise on the Adult Learn to Curl Program
Lead development of Para Curling opportunities

Admin and Communication

Support Executive Director in implementation of Nova Scotia Perform Pathway Initiative
Manage coach certification process to ensure standards are being achieved
Create annual workplan
Some website management

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management, Kinesiology degree, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Minimum of NCCP Provincial Trained status at Comp Dev is required (or Competition Development certification must be to be completed within 6 months of employment)

Proven ability to provide effective leadership and direction to both a paid and volunteer resource base. Must possess excellent management and relationship building skills. Must be able to build and maintain credibility with key stakeholders such as curling coaches across Nova Scotia.

Proven ability to communicate effectively with all key stakeholders including Nova Scotia Curling Association members, volunteers and staff, via written reports, formal and informal presentations and day to day interactions. Demonstrated ability in program development, administration, and delivery.

Must possess strong visionary and superb planning skills. Ability to manage multiple activities and programs at a time. Must be highly self-motivated and able to work well independently as well as in a team. Ability to flex work hours to support curling activities during evenings and weekends as required, particularly during the program intensive in-season period. Must have a passion for curling with an emphasis on support for grassroots athletes and coaches.

Salary and Benefits: Will commensurate with experience and qualifications.
