The Executive Director serves as chief executive officer of the NSCA and, in partnership with the Board, is responsible for achieving the strategic goals and ends of the NSCA. Together, the Board and Executive Director ensure the NSCA’s leadership within to the curling community, the accomplishment of the mission and vision, and accountability of the NSCA to its constituents.
The Board delegates responsibility for management and day-to-day operations to the Executive Director, and s/he has the authority to carry out these responsibilities, in accordance with the direction and policies established by the Board. The Executive Director provides direction and enables the Board to carry out its governance functions.

Commencement Date: August 15, 2016
Average work week: 37.5 hrs
Travel: 5-10 weekends annually

QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in sport administration, business administration, public policy, education or communication, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in sponsorship, marketing and membership program development is an asset.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail, the ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines with no impact on performance.
- Self motivated, proficient, and reliable.
- Possess the ability and eagerness to work within a team environment.
- Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook) and web administration.
- Experience working with a Board of Directors in a senior leadership position.
- Proven senior leadership experience with a not-for-profit organization is preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Canadian sport system.
- Proven ability to manage and oversee administration & operations, corporate finance, andhuman resources.
- Strong leadership skills and demonstrated ability to manage staff and work with volunteers.
- Experience leading complex, detailed and time sensitive projects.
- Political acuity to maintain effective relationships with CSOs, other PSOs & NSOs.
JOB DUTIES
The Executive Director, as the senior staff member, will fulfill the following roles:
Visionary: Together with the President, provides strategic leadership and direction to the association, actively advancing its mission and stature among athletes and within the Canadian sport community, governments, corporate sector, and the general public.
Leader: Demonstrates leadership in the development and growth of the organization, including the development of strategic and annual operating plans, the activities of the Board and committees, the progressive advancement of organizational objectives, and the successful delivery of association programming.
Advocate: Understands and consistently/actively represents the opinions and concerns of recreational curlers and high performance athletes to partners and stakeholders through the appropriate channels, including the preparation of written materials and submissions, media strategy, directing meetings and presentations, partnership activities, lobbying and ongoing strategic presence.
Team Builder: Ensures the appropriate environment for athletes to engage in the activities of the association, for the effective function of the Board of Directors and committees, and for the efficient operation of staff and events.
Policy Maker: Facilitates the policy making activities of the Board through the provision of appropriate research information, materials, and procedures.
Representative/Spokesperson: Represents and speaks on behalf of the association to athletes, coaches, partners, funding agencies, politicians and stakeholders, in media and client relations, and at meetings, conferences, and events.
Communicator: Builds and executes a communication strategy consistent with the values of the organization, effective in reaching media, partners, sponsors and athletes, and successful in achieving communication objectives.
Partnership Builder: Builds an appropriate atmosphere for, and proactively maintains, all NSCA partnerships including athletes, media, games organizations, strategic partners, appropriate government departments, and sponsors; and through ongoing dialogue, information exchange and goodwill, enables the association to work towards its goals in an atmosphere of integrity, openness, inclusivity, and mutual respect.
Administrator / Manager: Manages the Association’s financial and human resources, including appropriate and proper financial and accounting controls to achieve a sustainable budget and financial wellbeing of the organization; and negotiates, manages and monitors all marketing, sponsorship, fundraising and contractual agreements on behalf of the association.
Identifies, develops, manages, and monitors all association programs, activities and resources to meet the ongoing needs of members and partners. Provides administrative and management support to the Board of Directors, ensuring that all activities of the association are in accordance with the governance structure, policies and procedures of the Board.
Ensures a relationship exists between objectives laid out in annual staff work plans and the evaluation measures used by the association.
LEVEL OF REPORTING AND FUNCTION
- Reports to the President of the Board of Directors.
- Works daily with organizational staff and volunteers.
- Works with contractors as required and service providers on an on-going basis.
- Communicates with athletes, partners, supporters and sponsors on an on-going basis.
- Works directly with Association member clubs and NSCA directors and committees on an “as required” basis.
