Career Opportunity: Technical Director, Nova Scotia Curling Association

The Nova Scotia Curling Association Technical Director position is a comprehensive, multi-faceted role with broad responsibilities for the overall development of curling in Nova Scotia. The priorities are grassroots and youth recruitment, development and retention, and the improvement of coaching programs that will inspire curlers as they pursue their podium pursuits. The position is located in Halifax working on behalf of our member Clubs to develop, administer, and grow the sport of Curling in Nova Scotia. Specific areas of responsibility include:

Key Responsibilities
Coach Development 
• Develop and manage the annual plan for coach development within Nova Scotia
• Provide Professional Development opportunities, including financial and event reporting
• Provide technical advice to clubs regarding coaching certification and deliver certification opportunities province-wide
• Identify, recruit, train and retain Para-coaches throughout the province
• Ensure accuracy of coach certification tracking on The Locker

Athlete Development
• Develop learning opportunities leading to the Canada Games playdowns
• Develop and implement a Youth Curling Series
• Develop and implement Youth Curling camps and clinics
• Monitor and track the Rocks and Rings program
• Manage Sport Fair booth
• Lead development and implementation of Para Curling opportunities

Administration and Communication
• Support Executive Director in implementation of Nova Scotia Performance Pathway Initiatives
• Manage coach certification process to ensure standards are being achieved
• Create annual work plan
• Maintain, promote and track Twitter, Facebook and Website

Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Management, Kinesiology degree, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Minimum NCCP Provincial Trained status of Comp Dev is required. The successful incumbent must be willing to attain both Leader and Master Facilitator accreditation within specified timeframe. Proven ability to provide effective leadership to a volunteer resource base; organizational and event management skills as well as report writing are considered assets. Must possess excellent relationship building skills and demonstrate sound listening and problem solving skills. Sound financial reporting ability. Must be able to build confidence and credibility with all key stakeholders.
Proven ability to communicate effectively with all key stakeholders including Nova Scotia Curling Association members, Board members, volunteers, staff, coaches, Club managers via written reports, formal and informal presentations and day to day interactions.
Demonstrated ability in program development, administration, delivery and evaluation. Must possess strong visionary, language and superb planning skills.
Ability to manage multiple activities and programs and set priorities. Must be highly self-motivated and able to work independently as well as in a team environment. Ability to flex work hours to support curling activities during evenings and weekends as required, particularly during the program intensive in-season period (October-April).
Must have a passion for curling with an emphasis on support and development of grassroots novices, athletes and coaches.
