The Royal City Curling Club (RCCC), located in New Westminster, B.C. is a non-profit society that owns and operates a six sheet curling facility, including a lounge, kitchen and pro-shop operation providing services to 300 active members, over 1,100 curlers and 500 community users every year. RCCC has a rich 50 year history in the community and is one of the busiest curling clubs in the lower mainland with 28 leagues or 34 draws playing on a weekly basis September through April. Known for its excellent ice conditions, competitive and recreational curling and a strong community presence, RCCC also thrives as a social club with events staged year round.
RCCC is currently looking for a passionate, energetic, and dedicated Curling Club Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Club and deepen the Club’s engagement with its members and volunteers and the local community. This position is a salaried position requiring self-managed full time hours September 1 – June 30 with part-time duties during July and August. The facility is open 7 days a week in peak season with varying hours. Some evening and weekend work will be required.
The ideal candidate will possess a direct and candid communication style and strong interpersonal skills – ability to liaise with leagues, members, and the public while working effectively with a wide range of people and personalities. You will be an inspirational leader with the ability to harness the energy of the members and volunteers who come not only to curl but also come to partake in the community of the Club.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
MEMBER SERVICES
– Ensures quality standards for food, beverage, sports and recreation, entertainment and other club services are provided in a cost-effective manner.
– Addresses membership and user issues and challenges.
– Coordinates the marketing and membership relations programs to promote the Club’s services and facilities to potential and present members and users.
– Engages, develops and promotes a strong volunteer base to support trainings, special events, social and other activities within the Club and community.
FACILITY MANAGEMENT
– Coordinates and schedules year round facility use including leagues, rentals, special events, and other activities.
– Oversees the care, cleanliness, protection and maintenance of all the Club’s physical assets and facilities, including the ice playing conditions in conjunction with the Head Ice Technician.
– Maintains compliance with all code and relevant legislation.
– Gives direction to and works closely with vendors, outside contractors, firms and individuals providing services to the Club.
GOVERNANCE & ADMINISTRATION
– Supports and assists the Board in setting the Club’s strategic direction, and implements operational objectives defined in the Strategic Plan or directed by the Board.
– Coordinates with the Board the development of operating and capital budgets; monitors monthly and other financial statements.
– Leads, directs, and oversees general administration over the day-to-day operations of the Club’s office.
– Responsible for the recruitment, training, supervision and performance management of all employees.
– Ensures effective ongoing communication with all stakeholders.
– Ensures that the Club fulfils legal requirements.
– Represents and raises the profile of the Club to broaden the awareness and scope of the Club’s operation as a member of the New Westminster and curling community.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING TALENTS
– Previous experience working with and reporting to a volunteer Board.
– Non-profit governance and hands-on office administration with experience in budgets and financial reporting.
– Experience with managing a membership or service based facility including licensed lounge, kitchen and pro-shop.
– Proven people management skills.
– Ability to prioritize, set, measure and achieve goals.
– Leads by example and ability to engage volunteers, members and employees.
– Direct and candid communicator with strong skills– both written and oral.
– Proven planning, organizing and decision making skills.
– Proficient user of technology – Office, Simply Accounting, payroll and social media tools,
– Current Emergency First Aid and CPR-C required. Serving it Right, valid BC Driver’s License, acceptable current criminal record check with a vulnerable sector search.
