General Manager (Part-Time)

Location: Springbank Curling Club (Calgary, AB)
Contract Type: Hourly Contract | Estimated 300–500 Hours/Year
Compensation: Based on experience and qualifications
Reports to: Board of Directors

Position Overview
Springbank Curling Club (SCC) is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated General Manager to lead the growth and sustainability of our club. This part-time, flexible role focuses on three core pillars: Player Development, Branding & Promotion, and Club Administration. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Board of Directors, volunteers, and community stakeholders to enhance the member experience, attract new curlers, and strengthen the club’s operational capacity. Most responsibilities will be performed remotely, with in-person presence required for program delivery, events, and select meetings.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Development & Programming
– Lead and expand the Junior Program, creating a positive, inclusive, and skills-focused experience.
– Plan and deliver “Try Curling” events and Learn to Curl programs for all ages and skill levels.
– Organize at least two full-day skill development clinics annually.
– Design and launch new programming opportunities, including: Recreational leagues (triples, stick, drop-in), Seasonal or short-format leagues,Special events or theme nights (e.g., Corporate Curling Nights, Family Fun Days)
2. Branding & Member Engagement
– Build and implement a year-round communications strategy using newsletters, website updates, and social media.
– Launch and manage a New Member Welcome Program to improve retention and community integration.
– Use storytelling, photography, and digital engagement to strengthen SCC’s brand presence in the community.
3. Revenue Development & Growth
– Develop and recommend new revenue-generating initiatives, including fee structures that support long-term sustainability.
– Explore partnerships with schools, community groups, and local businesses to increase ice usage and visibility.
– Track and report on growth metrics (ice utilization, membership growth, retention rates).
4. Club Administration
– Oversee club communications, responding promptly and professionally to inquiries.
– Manage the league and event registration system, ensuring accurate and timely processing.
– Provide administrative support to the Board, league coordinators, and event organizers.
– Monitor and evaluate programs to ensure alignment with club goals and member needs.
5. Professional Development & Community Partnerships
– Attend relevant training and networking opportunities (e.g., Curling Alberta Business of Curling Symposium, ACP Associate Pro Training).
– Build collaborative relationships with SPFAS, other regional clubs, Curling Alberta, and community organizations to enhance programming and share resources.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
– Program Development & Delivery: Proven experience creating, implementing, and evaluating community programs.
– Social Media & Marketing: Strong digital communication skills, including content creation and campaign planning.
– Coaching Experience: Past coaching experience is considered a strong asset.
– NCCP Competition Coach Certification is preferred but not required.
– Relationship Management: Ability to work with a variety of stakeholders.
– Event Planning: Skilled in coordinating clinics, bonspiels, or community events.
– Administrative Excellence: Organized, efficient, and tech-savvy.

Time Commitment & Compensation:
– Estimated 300–500 hours annually, with heavier involvement (up to 50%) in September and October.
– Hourly contract with compensation commensurate with experience.
