Yarmouth Golf & Curling Club (YGCC) is a long-established, member-owned golf and curling club located in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. 

The Club is an important part of the local community and is committed to delivering exceptional golf and curling experiences in a welcoming environment that honours our traditions, evolves to meet the expectations of today’s and future members, and fosters growth and participation within the community. 

YGCC offers an 18-hole golf course, curling facilities, clubhouse, pro shop and food and beverage operations, along with a variety of golf, curling and community programming. 

The Club has experienced significant recent membership growth and is entering an exciting period of continued development, including planning for a major facility revitalization initiative.

Job Summary

Yarmouth Golf & Curling Club is seeking an experienced, energetic and community-minded General Manager to provide overall leadership and management of the Club’s operations. 

Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the General Manager will be responsible for the effective day-to-day operation of the Club while working collaboratively with the Board to advance the Club’s strategic direction, financial sustainability, membership growth and long-term development. 

This is an exciting opportunity for a strong leader who enjoys working with people, understands the importance of member experience and community relationships, and can balance the traditions of an established club with the need for continued growth and innovation.

Position Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and management of the Club’s daily operations. 
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors to implement the Club’s strategic priorities and long-term vision. 
  • Oversee financial operations, budgeting, purchasing and financial reporting. 
  • Recruit, lead, schedule and manage seasonal and year-round staff. 
  • Oversee golf, curling, clubhouse, pro shop, food and beverage and facility operations. 
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with members, guests, staff, suppliers, community partners and stakeholders. 
  • Support membership growth, retention and engagement initiatives. 
  • Ensure a high standard of customer service and member experience. 
  • Develop and maintain effective operational policies and procedures. 
  • Ensure compliance with applicable employment, health and safety and regulatory requirements. 
  • Work with the Board and appropriate committees on capital projects, facility improvements and the Club’s ongoing revitalization initiatives. 
  • Identify opportunities to increase revenues, improve efficiencies and strengthen the Club’s long-term financial position. 
  • Promote the Club within the community and build strong relationships with local organizations and partners. 
  • Provide regular reports, recommendations and updates to the Board of Directors. 

    Qualifications Required

The successful candidate will be a confident, approachable and accountable leader with strong organizational and interpersonal skills. 

The ideal candidate will have: 

  • Previous management experience in a golf club, curling club, recreation facility, hospitality operation or similar organization. 
  • Demonstrated leadership and staff-management experience. 
  • Strong financial and budget management skills. 
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer-service skills. 
  • Strong organizational, decision-making and problem-solving abilities. 
  • The ability to work effectively with a volunteer Board of Directors. 
  • A genuine interest in creating a positive experience for members, guests and the community. 
  • Knowledge of golf club and/or curling operations is considered an asset. 
  • Post-secondary education in business, hospitality, recreation management or a related field is considered an asset. 
  • PGA of Canada membership or relevant golf industry experience is considered an asset.

Compensation

$65,000–$75,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
