Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club to host 2025 Canadian Senior Curling Championships
The Canadian Senior Curling Championships are returning to Ottawa for the first time in 15 years, it was announced today by Curling Canada.
The Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club will once again host the premiere event for Canada’s best men’s and women’s 50-and-over curlers at the 2025 Canadian Seniors, which will take place Nov. 29-Dec. 6.
“Ottawa has proudly hosted so many major curling events over the years, we know the 2025 Canadian Seniors will be another huge success,” said Nolan Thiessen, Chief Executive Officer of Curling Canada. “This event has produced some amazing entertainment showcasing so many past champions and household names, and we know it will be another crowd-pleasing championship later this year.”
The facility last hosted the national seniors event in 2010, with Alberta’s Team Mark Johnson and British Columbia’s Team Christine Jurgenson earning victories.
Since then, the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club has hosted numerous national championships, including the 2014 and 2015 Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championships, the 2015 and 2021 Canadian Curling Club Championships and co-hosted the 2024 Canadian Under-18 Curling Championships with the RA Centre.
In 1976, the venue hosted the Canadian senior men’s championship. The women’s event in particular maintains close ties to the Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club, with the inaugural 1973 championships hosted there.
“The Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club has a long history of holding major curling events,” said John Graham, President of the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club Board of Directors. “Consequently, we are delighted to carry on this tradition by hosting the 2025 Canadian Senior Curling Championships. We look forward to sharing with curlers across Canada our world-class facility.”
Ottawa, in general, has been a significant supporter of curling hosting events such as the 2016 Montana’s Brier, 2017 Canadian Curling Trials and, most recently, the 2023 BKT World Men’s Curling Championship.
The Canadian Senior Curling Championships were lasted hosted by a Curling Ontario facility in 2018 at Stratford. Saskatchewan’s Team Sherry Anderson won her second of a record-setting five consecutive championships, while Ontario’s Team Bryan Cochrane, of nearby Russell, Ont., earned men’s gold.
“Our host committee, amazing volunteers, and wonderful Hunt Club staff are excited for the arrival of the nation’s premier senior curling teams at what we believe to be one of the finest curling and golf facilities in Canada,” said Donna and Richard May, who will serve as Host Committee Co-Chairs. “We are committed to providing an unforgettable week of curling and ensuring exceptional hospitality for the curlers and their guests. We eagerly anticipate the commencement of this event in November 2025.”
Ontario leads all Member Associations with 13 Canadian senior men’s championships since the event’s origin in 1965. Saskatchewan and Ontario lead the way with 11 senior women’s championship victories apiece.
The Canadian senior men’s championship first occurred in 1965, with the first event played at Port Arthur, Ont.
“We’re proud to be welcoming the Canadian Senior Curling Championships back to Ontario, especially to a facility that has proven repeatedly that it knows how to put on memorable events,” said Matt Allen, Executive Director of Curling Ontario. “I’m confident that the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club will be working very hard over the next nine months to have everything in place for a success story on and off the ice.”
The winners in Ottawa will represent Canada at the 2026 World Senior Curling Championships (dates, location to be announced by World Curling).
