Ford World Men’s Volunteers Join Victoria’s Festive Spirit

With Christmas just around the corner, the promotions team for the 2013 Ford World Men’s Curling Championship has been right in the midst of the festive season for two of Victoria’s most cherished holiday traditions.

At the 21st annual Festival of Trees, hosted by The Fairmont Empress, the Community Events volunteers for the Ford World Men’s teamed up with media partner CHEK TV to decorate a tree that would make any curling fan proud.

“I just love the rock at the top of the tree,” notes Chris Atchison, Host Co-Chair.  “This is a great promotion and we hope that every volunteer for our event can come down to The Empress and enjoy the tree that represents our event.”

The Festival of Trees involves a wide range of local businesses, community organizations and individuals each year – and while the Ford World Men’s entry didn’t receive any awards on opening night, Friday, November 30, the People’s Choice honours are still up for grabs.  So get down to The Fairmont Empress and register your vote!

The volunteers also cooked up something special for Canada’s National Gingerbread Showcase sponsored by the Inn at Laurel Point, featuring unique works of art created by professional and amateur chefs.  Susan Jobbins, Director of Community Events, teamed up with her friend Janey Paul to build a curling-themed gingerbread house that rivals the best on display.

“I worked with Janey who spent well over 40 hours creating the house,” notes Jobbins.  “She is not a curler herself, so her mother and I helped come up with some life-like gingerbread curlers to go along with the house.”

Again, the Ford World Men’s entry didn’t take an opening prize… but there’s still time to get your vote in for the People’s Choice Award with the winner to be announced December 21.  The 27 houses in the gingerbread neighbourhood will be on display until New Year’s Day.

“You Gotta Be There” when the 2013 Ford World Men’s Curling Championship comes to our house, March 30-April 7 in the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.  Great seats are available right now by clicking here.
