Steve Laycock will be making his second appearance at Canadian curling’s Pre-Trials event when he competes in the 2013 Capital One Road to the Roar, presented by Monsanto, Nov. 5-10 at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex.

Playing lead for Pat Simmons in 2009, he competed in the Road to the Roar in Prince George, B.C., where the team earned one of the four final men’s berths in the Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings in Edmonton.

He was also part of the Simmons foursome that represented Saskatchewan at the Brier in 2007 and 2008, winning the bronze medal the second year when the event was held at Winnipeg’s MTS Centre – the setting for this year’s Canadian Curling Trials. In 2011 Laycock skipped the Saskatchewan entry in the Tim Hortons Brier.

A former junior champion himself –skipping his Saskatchewan team to gold medals at the 2003 Canadian and World junior men’s curling championships – Laycock will be backed by a trio of former junior stars in the Road to the Roar.

Third Kirk Muyres and second Colton Flasch were members of the Braeden Moskowy squad that took the gold medal at the 2011 Canadian Junior Men’s Curling Championship with a perfect 13-0 record, and Dallan Muyres was part of Team Saskatchewan at the 2008 championship.

Laycock will be one of 12 men’s teams in the hunt for the final two spots in the Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings, presented by Monsanto, Dec 1-8 in Winnipeg.
