Registration is now open for Competition Development Workshop

The Canadian Curling Association is pleased to announce the first official Competition Development Workshop, being held March 27-30, 2014 in Hamilton, Ont. Effective Jan. 1, 2014 “Competition-Development” Coach Workshop has replaced Level 3 Technical, until now this has been a provincially administered program, going forward this will be a nationally administered program being delivered by the CCA.

“Our goal is to move the workshop around the country to ensure accessibility for all provinces/territories,” says Jennifer Ferris, NCCP Transition Consultant for the CCA. “We had quite a few coaches in Southern Ontario interested in the training in the recent months; therefore, that seemed like the natural place to hold our first workshop. We are extending the invitation to coaches across the country to join us in Hamilton.”

Ferris says that most provincial/territorial coaching associations have funding assistance available for Competition Development Training Tuition and travel costs.

The Competition-Development program is designed to assist coaches in taking their teams to the next level of provincial, national or international play. This workshop focuses on the planning, strategy, analysis and program management needed to improve your team’s performance. Coaches should be actively working with a “Training to Compete” level team during this program. There is a small Wheelchair curling component, so coaches working with Athletes with a Disability would also benefit from this program.

During this training coaches will learn:
• Current Technical Skills
• How to Analyze Technical and Tactical Performance
• Performance Planning
• Program Management
• Advanced Strategy
• Advanced Practice Planning
• Prevention and Recovery (Integrated Multisport Module)
• Developing Athletic Abilities (Integrated Multisport Module)

Registration is now open, and the deadline to apply is March 1, 2014. Click here for registration information.
