Canada’s winning streak continues at World Mixed Doubles

Canada’s husband-and-wife mixed doubles team of Wayne and Kim Tuck won their fourth straight game at the 2014 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship on Sunday afternoon, squeaking by Estonia 8-7 at the Ice Bowl in Dumfries, Scotland.

The Tucks, of Ilderton, Ont., backed by coach Jim Waite, looked to be in control of the game early, scoring four in the first end. But Estonia’s Maile Moelder and Erkki Lill fought back, scoring a deuce in the second and a steal of one in the third to make it 4-3.

Canada went ahead on stolen points in the fifth and sixth ends, but again the Estonia’s climbed back with a score of three in the seventh to trail 8-6.

In the final end, Estonia’s Moelder removed a Canadian stone from the four-foot to count one. The Canadians decided to throw through, giving up the steal of one and securing the 8-7 win.

Canada continues to sit in third place in the B Group standings with a 4-1 record, behind Sweden (5-1) and Scotland (5-1). On Monday, Canada will play Kazakhstan’s Olga Ten and Aleksandr Orlov (2-3) and Brazil’s Aline Lima and Marcelo Mello (1-4).
