Manitoba rolls over B.C. in Draw Three action
In the first meeting of two former Scotties champions, Manitoba’s Jennifer Jones took control early and kept B.C.’s Kelly Scott chasing throughout a one-sided 10-4 game.
The teams traded singles early, but the momentum shifted when Jones and her team of Kaitlyn Lawes, Jill Officer and Dawn Askin, took a deuce in the third end. B.C. went on the offensive in the fourth end, only to see the plan backfire, leaving Scott facing three Manitoba counters with her last rock, scoring only a single.
It was all Manitoba from that point on. Jones took three in the fifth and another two in the seventh on her way to a 10-4 win, her second of the round robin.
“We got a deuce and took a little bit of control, but I think we just played well from the start of the game to the end of the game, which is what you want,” said Jones. “But there’s always room for improvement and hopefully we’ll just keep getting better.”
“A bit of a frustrating game on our part,” said Scott, who now sits in the middle of the standings with a 1-1 record. “We just couldn’t put a few shots in a row together. We had good weight and not great line, and vice versa. We battled a bit with the stones that we had and probably with a few spots on the ice, so not our best, that’s for sure. I think we were throwing fine and I think results weren’t the greatest.”
In other Draw Three action, Ontario’s Rachel Homan continued to roll, scoring two three-enders on the way to a 9-5 victory over Kristie Moore of Alberta.
Saskatchewan’s Jill Shumay dominated Quebec, skipped by Allison Ross, scoring a six-ender in a 12-5 win. Nova Scotia’s Mary-Anne Arsenault played an aggressive game against Team Canada, stealing in the tenth, but losing 7-6 when Heather Nedohin was able to score one in the extra end.
The Scotties continues on Sunday with draws at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and on Monday with draws at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. (all times EST). All draws are being broadcast by TSN/RDS, the official broadcast partner of the Season of Champions.
