Team Switzerland has good reason to celebrate at the 2013 Ford World Men’s Curling Championship, presented by Booster Juice, March 30-April 7 in Victoria.

When skip Sven Michel leads his team into the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre for an opening-draw match against Russia, it will mark his first appearance at the world championship, as well as his 25th birthday.

The young Swiss team that includes Claudio Pätz, Sandro Trolliet and Simon Gempeler has been moving up the world rankings with consecutive titles at the 2011 and 2012 Baden Masters World Curling Tour event. They presently sit in 14th position on the international tour’s Order of Merit.

Michel finished in sixth place at the 2012 European Curling Championships in Karlstad, Sweden. The skip, along with Trolliet and Pätz, were part of the Christian von Gunten team that won the bronze medal for Switzerland at the 2007 World Junior Men’s Curling Championship.
