2026 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship kicks off in Prince Edward Island on Sunday

It’s been three decades since Prince Edward Island has hosted the country’s best mixed curling teams, but the wait will finally be over when the first rocks are thrown on Sunday at the West Prince Curling Club at Mill River in Woodstock.

The 2026 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship runs from Nov. 8 to 14 and features fourteen provincial and territorial teams all battling it out for a chance to claim the national title.

Teams are split into two pools of seven for round-robin competition until Wednesday evening to determine the standings in each pool. Come Thursday morning, the top four teams in each pool will move into the Championship Pool, while the remaining three teams will compete in the Seeding Pool. Teams will play within their new pools until Friday.

The top four teams in the Championship Pool will then face off in the semifinals on Saturday at 10 a.m. (all times ADT). The winners will advance to the championship final at 2:30 p.m., while the two semifinal losers will meet to determine which team takes home bronze.

Some familiar teams are making a return to the Canadian Mixed Championship including Manitoba’s Team Colin Kurz which has reunited for the first time since its Canadian Mixed and World Mixed titles in 2019. Kurz, Meghan Walter, Brendan Bilawka, and Sara Krym won the 2019 World Mixed Curling Championship in Aberdeen, Scotland, with a perfect 11-0 record. The Winnipeg squad won its 2026 provincial title in a similar fashion, finishing 6-0, and will undoubtedly be looking to do the same this week.

Québec’s Team Félix Asselin slides into P.E.I. with the same lineup that captured the national title in 2022. Asselin, Laurie St-Georges, Émile Asselin and Emily Riley won bronze at the 2019 championship before returning to claim gold three years later.

New Brunswick enters the tournament as the defending champion, but with a different lineup this year. Team Sylvie Quillian will represent the province, with Quillian bringing plenty of national experience to the ice with six Scotties Tournament of Hearts appearances under her belt.

Quillian’s team will take on the host province’s Team Adam Arsenault in the opening draw on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. Arsenault’s team will be making the most of playing on home ice, as P.E.I. looks to add to its three Canadian Mixed titles. Peter Gallant won the province’s first title in 1987, followed by two championships skipped by Robert Campbell in 1989 and 2011.

The full field includes:

  • Alberta – Team Andrew Hodgson (Airdrie)
  • British Columbia – Team Josh Miki (White Rock)
  • Manitoba – Team Colin Kurz (Winnipeg)
  • New Brunswick – Team Sylvie Quillian (Moncton)

New Brunswick’s 2025 title earns the champion Team René Comeau the opportunity to represent Canada at the World Mixed Curling Championship in April in Penticton, B.C., while this week’s winner in P.E.I. will wear the Maple Leaf the following season.
