Playoff games on hold

World Championship playoff games on hold after positive tests

We are aware of positive COVID-19 tests within the Calgary bubble at the World Men’s Curling Championship. In response to this local situation, the World Curling Federation and Curling Canada is following its COVID-19 response plan while working with Alberta Health.

As a result the scheduled 9 a.m. MT playoff game between the United States and Switzerland will not be played at the scheduled time, and no further games will be played until there is more clarity. All teams that made the playoffs will undergo testing on Saturday morning, and until the results are clear and it’s known that the players and event staff are safe, no further games will be played.

It should be noted that the asymptomatic positive tests did not involve teams that qualified for the playoffs.

The World Curling Federation and Curling Canada are assisting impacted individuals, and those who have come in close contact. These individuals are in quarantine and following all of the required protocols in place to protect themselves and the community at large.

Contact tracing has also been initiated and those who have deemed to have been in close contact either have been, or will be, notified of their risk of exposure. These individuals have also been advised of steps that need to be taken.

Individual health and medical information is personal and confidential. Out of respect to those involved, additional information will not be shared.

The health and safety of all athletes, teams, staff and communities where we live, train and compete is always our first priority. The World Curling Federation and Curling Canada have robust health and safety protocols in place under the guidance of federal, provincial, and local public health officials that we continue to follow during these championships.

No further information is available at this time. Once we have information, updates will be provided.
