MEDAL MATCHUPS SET

Both China and Korea will emerge from tomorrow’s final with their first-ever medals at a world wheelchair mixed doubles championship.

China and Korea playing for gold at 2024 world wheelchair mixed doubles

Three countries will land on the podium for first time tomorrow upon the conclusion of the 2024 World Wheelchair Mixed Doubles Curling Championship at Gangneung Curling Centre in Gangneung, South Korea.

Team China (Meng Wang and Jinqiao Yang) took down defending champion Latvia and Japan en route to the gold medal game, while Team Korea (Minkyong Cho and Taeyeong Jeong) punched its ticket to the final with playoff wins over Estonia and Italy.

China and Korea both came out of Group C. Korea won its earlier round robin meeting 8-2.

A host country has never won gold at a world wheelchair mixed doubles championship.

The bronze medal game will be between Team Italy (Orietta Berto and Paolo Ioratti) and Team Japan (Aki Ogawa and Yoji Nakajima). Neither country has won a medal in the history of the tournament.

Team Canada (Collinda Joseph and Dennis Thiessen) ended round robin play at 2-4 and did not qualify for playoffs. The duo won bronze at last year’s championship in Richmond, B.C.

The gold and bronze medal games take place Friday at 9 p.m. ET.
