Moncton to host 2027 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship

Moncton, N.B., is set to welcome Canada’s best four-player mixed curling teams for the 2027 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship, Curling Canada announced today.

Curl Moncton will host the championship from Nov. 7-13, marking the first time the national championship has been held in Moncton.

Curl Moncton was officially created in 2011 through the merger of two long-standing local clubs, the Beaver Curling Club and the Beauséjour Curling Club. In 2013, a third historic club, the Moncton Curling Association, which dates back to 1881, joined the organization. (Photo, Curl Moncton)

“The Canadian Mixed Curling Championship is a celebration of the tradition and community belonging that make curling so special across the country, and we’re excited to bring the championship to Moncton in 2027,” said Curling Canada CEO Nolan Thiessen.  “Moncton and Curl Moncton have a rich curling tradition and a proven track record of hosting successful events. We look forward to working with the local organizing committee to deliver a first-class championship experience for athletes, officials, volunteers and fans in 2027.

The 2027 championship will mark the 64th edition of the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship, which has been contested annually since 1964. The winner will earn the right to represent Canada at the 2028 World Mixed Curling Championship, with details to be announced by World Curling.

The Canadian Mixed Championship made its debut in Toronto in 1964 and has since become an annual showcase for four-player mixed curling teams from across the country. The championship features two men and two women competing together, with teams representing each province and territory as well as Northern Ontario.

“We at Curl Moncton are excited that we will be hosting the 2027 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship,” said Mike Doucette, chair of the host committee. “People have been curling in Moncton for many years as we celebrate the 145th anniversary of when curling first started here. Curling has always been important to our city, and over the past 75 years, Moncton has hosted several significant curling competitions. In 2027, we are looking forward to having the best mixed curlers in the country come to town.”

Curl Moncton was officially created in 2011 through the merger of two long-standing local clubs, the Beaver Curling Club and the Beauséjour Curling Club. In 2013, a third historic club, the Moncton Curling Association, which dates back to 1881, joined the organization.

The merger brought Moncton’s curling community together under one roof, combining regional resources and establishing a sustainable model for the sport.

Today, Curl Moncton operates five curling sheets alongside six indoor pickleball courts. The facility offers recreational and competitive evening leagues, senior day leagues, stick curling, mixed doubles, Little Rocks and junior development programs.

Curl Moncton and its predecessor clubs have a long history of hosting major provincial, national and international events. Most recently, the club hosted the 2024 Everest Canadian Senior Curling Championships.

“Hosting the 2027 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship is a great opportunity to celebrate curling in our community while welcoming athletes, families and fans from across the country,” said Moncton Mayor Shawn Crossman. “We’re proud to support Curl Moncton in bringing this championship to our city and to showcase our community’s hospitality while supporting local businesses and giving local curlers the chance to experience national-level competition close to home.”

Curl Moncton has previously hosted several major curling championships, including the 2009 World Men’s Curling Championship and the 1956 and 1985 Briers. The city also hosted the 1975 Canadian Women’s Curling Championship, the 1952 and 1973 Canadian Junior Men’s Curling Championships, the inaugural 2017 Canadian Under-18 Curling Championships and the 2000 Canadian Under-20 Curling Championships.

“New Brunswick has a proud history at the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship, and hosting this event in Moncton is another great opportunity to showcase the strength of curling in our province,” said Marg Maranda, Executive Director of Curling NB. “Curl Moncton and its volunteers have demonstrated their ability to deliver outstanding championships, and we’re looking forward to welcoming teams from across Canada and giving them an opportunity to experience New Brunswick hospitality.”

New Brunswick is the reigning Canadian mixed champion after Fredericton’s Team Rene Comeau won the 2025 championship in Assiniboia, Sask. Comeau, Jennifer Fenwick, Alex Robichaud and Katie Vandenborre will represent Canada at the upcoming World Mixed Curling Championship.

The province has won the Canadian Mixed Championship twice before. Team Terry Odishaw won the 2007 championship, while Team Grant Odishaw captured the title in 1994.

The 2027 championship will mark the first time New Brunswick has hosted the Canadian Mixed Championship since 1983, when Saint John hosted the event. Saskatchewan’s Team Rick Folk won that championship. Saint John also hosted the 1971 Canadian Mixed Championship, won by Saskatchewan’s Team Larry McGrath.

Alberta and Saskatchewan have each won the Canadian Mixed Championship a leading 11 times.

The West Prince Curling Club in Mill River, P.E.I., will host the 2026 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship from Nov. 8-14, 2026.
