Another Strong showing for Newfoundland/Labrador

The showdown to decide Newfoundland/Labrador’s representatives for the 2014 Scotties Tournament of Hearts – the Canadian women’s curling championship – came to a close, Jan. 11 in St. John’s. The five-team field in the provincial playdowns, contested at the city’s RE/MAX Centre, included three names that have been dominant on Newfoundland/Labrador women’s curling scene for more than a decade – Heather Strong, Shelley Nichols and Stacie Devereaux. After finishing round robin play with 3-1 records, Strong downed former teammate Nichols in the championship match. The victory earned Strong an 11th trip to the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, Feb. 1-9, in Montreal’s Maurice-Richard Arena.
