Between the Sheets
To our Coach, Dennis Balderston.
Thank you for missing so many important family events for the team.
Thank you to your family for letting us have so much
“Great things are done by a series of small things brought together.” — Vincent van Gogh. I can’t believe it’s been over a year since the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. How time flies!
There is a time of year in all sports when team break ups, line up changes and player movement begins.
My talented author and friend Guy Scholz wrote this blog about the release of our new book. Enjoy!
I look back at the last 3 weeks… wow. We were part of an amazing team at the Continental Cup, then a mad dash to the TSN Skins Game in Casino Rama and a one day
I cheered for Erika Brown from the US, I high fived with Jennifer Jones, I strategized with Rick Lang, and I swept with Ben Hebert (ok…maybe that’s a stretch).
I must admit our team has had some odd requests since our win last Feb 2010, but I do think this one topped them all!
And I live in Calgary….why?
As I sit down to write this blog its about -14 in Calgary and snowing… pretty, but cold!
I never thought I would curl in Phoenix, but thanks to our friend, Kevin Kerwin, Terry and I headed down to Phoenix a couple weeks ago to conduct a curling clinic at the Ice Den in Scottsdale Arizona (practice facility of the Phoenix Coyotes).
It’s been an interesting 2 months since we started our search for sponsors to partner with our team.
I get asked often. Where did you come from?
And they are not asking, where I was born either. But more, how had I, at 44 represented Canada at the 2010 Olympics when I had previously had so little international experience and no major titles to my name.
As I write this blog Team Bernard has just finished up their 3rd event this season.
It began with a win in our small Calgary Curling Club opener on Sept 10th (I had just flown in two days prior, from a two week African safari so I was a bit jet lagged).
I flew to Toronto a few months back – out from Calgary at 5 pm and back home the next day at 3pm. Quick trip, for a great cause. It was the Microsoft Xbox launch M4M (Mission for Miracles) event.
This is the final post of a three part series, “The Lessons of the Medal“. Sport teaches so many lessons that can be used in everyday life – its understanding those lessons and applying them to your daily life that is the difficult part.
