Brier Bound – New Brunswick

As provincial and territorial qualifying events take place across the country, leading up to the 2011 Tim Hortons Brier, we’re keeping you up-to-date on all the latest developments. Here’s the news from New Brunswick. Wildcard Challenge play at Moncton’s Curling Beausejour Inc. over the weekend of January 21-23 produced the final four pieces in the puzzle for the upcoming New Brunswick Men’s Curling Championship field. Two Moncton Beaver teams survived the fray and will make their way to the Miramichi Curling Club in early February. Derrek Ellard was the first to qualify when he and his team of David Nolan, Shaun Mott and Nick McCann finished with a perfect 4-0 record, while club mate Scott Jones and his team of Andy McCann, Brian King and Ronnie Burgess advanced after finishing with a 5-2 mark. Beausejour’s Terry Odishaw and Carleton’s Gary Sullivan also join previous qualifiers James Grattan, Paul Dobson, Jeremy Mallais and Rick Perron in Miramichi. Round robin play will commence on February 2 leading to a three-team playoff format to crown the province’s best on February 6.
