The first Season of Champions event of the year marked a disappointing start for the reigning Team Canada as the Amber Holland crew finished out of the playoffs at the 2011 Capital One Canada Cup of Curling last week in Cranbrook.

A 2-4 record put the Holland team in a four-way tie for fourth position.  But, they’ll be back on the ice again in Langley next month for the 2012 World Financial Group Continental Cup of Curling – followed by the 2012 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, February 18 – 26 in Red Deer to defend last year’s championship. With the impressive win by Jennifer Jones in the Canada Cup final, the stage is setting up for a rematch between the two teams that battled for the Scotties title last year in Charlottetown… providing Jones prevails in a tough field at the Manitoba playdowns to join Holland in Red Deer. The Scotties promotions team was also busy over the weekend working the Christmas Bazaar at Westerner Park.  The volunteers were there to hand out candy canes to the kids and spread the word on ticket packages for the women’s national championship. They’ll be back at it this weekend at the Parkland Mall promoting Rocks in Your Socks – the perfect stocking stuffer for Christmas featuring a pair of tickets to one of the first 17 draws for just $39. The Host Committee also provided a number of Scotties Prize Packs for the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference bonspiel held over the past weekend. “You Gotta Be There” for the 2012 Scotties Tournament of Hearts when the best women’s teams in the country hit the ice at Westerner Park.  Get your tickets now by clicking here.
