Volunteers Rally for Tim Hortons Brier

Over 700 enthusiastic volunteers packed the Edmonton Expo Centre October 2 to prepare for the 2013 Tim Hortons Brier – the Canadian Men’s Curling Championship – heading to Rexall Place March 2-10. The first rally, with the support of proud volunteer sponsor Save-On-Foods, was an opportunity for all the recruits to try out the uniforms, pose for accreditation photos and review their assignments when Edmonton hosts the Brier for a sixth time in March 2013. Host Committee Chair Mark Johnson addressed the volunteers, thanking them for dedicating their personal time and energy to ensuring the latest edition of the curling classic exceeds all expectations…  and with Edmonton holding the all-time attendance record established at the 2005 Tim Hortons Brier, the expectations are extremely high! The promotions team was on hand for all four days of The Shoot-Out, September 13-16 at the Saville Centre.  The World Curling Tour event attracted a number of the top names in the game including several that will be battling for the right to represent Alberta next March at the Brier. The men’s championship was won by Edmonton’s Jamie King while Kaitlyn Lawes of Winnipeg skipped the Jennifer Jones team to victory on the women’s side. The busy fall schedule continues for the volunteers with appearances slated for the Edmonton Downtown Market October 6 and the Edmonton Eskimos CFL game October 13 when they host the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The volunteer requirements are close to being reached but positions are still available for anyone who would like to get involved in one of championship curling’s greatest traditions.  You can register online by clicking here. “You Gotta Be There” for the 2013 Tim Hortons Brier when Edmonton sets its sights on making history once again in Rexall Place.  Excellent seats are still available by clicking here.
