Rachel Homan wins Ford Hot Shots

Rachel Homan of Ontario got off to a strong start at the 2013 Scotties of Tournament of Hearts, even before the first game got underway. She walked away with the keys and a lease to a new Ford Fusion SE 2.0L after winning the Ford Hot Shots on Saturday afternoon. Homan outscored Sharon Cormier of the Northwest Territories/Yukon in head-to-head competition after three rounds that included preliminaries (all teams), quarter-finals (field of eight), and semifinals (field of four). Cormier won $2,000 for finishing in second place, and Homan’s teammate Emma Miskew received $1,000 for her third-place finish. Because Emma Miskew, Homan’s third, made it through to the third round, Nova Scotia’s Colleen Jones held the broom for Homan’s shots throughout the competition. It worked out well, especially on the double take-out, which Homan said had been giving her some trouble in practice. “Colleen’s pretty precise with her line, so it was awesome to have her on our team, and our sweepers were amazing. They held the line for me a ton, so it was great team effort.” “We’re really thankful for the support of Ford,” said Homan after the presentation of car keys. “My car’s got a lot of miles on it, that’s for sure.”
