New Brunswick’s Wayne Tallon Earns Berth to the final!
Wayne Tallon of the Capital Winter Club in Fredericton has punched his ticket to Sunday’s championship final at the 2013 Canadian Senior Men’s Championship at the Silver Fox Curling & Yacht Club in Summerside, PEI.
Tallon, with Mike Kennedy delivering last stones, Mike Flannery and Wade Blanchard, defeated Manitoba’s Bob Sigurdson 7-4 bolstered by a steal of two in the 8th end. Coupled with Ontario’s loss to PEI, Tallon can finish no worse than 9-2 and has defeated his two closest competitors should they post the same record. The men’s final is scheduled for Sunday, March 24th at 10:00am EST.
PEI and Alberta both have a firm grip on the semi final with over all records of 8-3. PEI defeated Ontario’s Howard Rajala 8-7 in a game not as close as it appears. Rod MacDonald and team led 8-3 after six ends, giving up singles in the last four ends to make the score close. White’s St. Albert CC foursome went back and forth with Saskatchewan’s Gord Bell, tied playing the final end. White made the hammer work with a score of two and the 9-7 win. Both teams will advance to the semi final with victories tonight. PEI will meet NL’s Glenn Goss (3-7) while Alberta will play Northern Ontario’s Bruce Munro (3-7). The semi final is scheduled for 6:00pm EST Saturday, March 23.
Ontario’s Rajala (7-3) is the only team remaining with a chance to make the playoffs hoping for either a PEI or Alberta loss this evening. Ontario will meet Quebec’s Robbie Maclean (5-5). Maclean lost this morning to Nova Scotia’s Alan O’Leary 6-5 in an extra end. The CFB Halifax team are 6-4.
Glenn Goss of NL gave up three in the 10th end then a steal in the 11th to BC’s Craig Lepine. BC improves to 4-6 while NL drops to 3-7.
The final game of the morning draw had Northern Ontario’s Bruce Munro beating the NWT’s Glen Hudy 14-4. The Sudbury team is 3-7 while NWT is winless.
