Second trip to worlds for Japan’s Morozumi

A silver medal at the 2012 Pacific-Asia Curling Championships presented Yusuke Morozumi with a second opportunity to represent Japan at the world championship.

Morozumi lost twice to China’s Rui Liu in the competition, held Nov. 18-25 in Naseby, New Zealand. Liu came out on top in the first draw of round-robin play and, more importantly, in the championship final with the title at stake. The Japanese team defeated South Korea in the semifinals to guarantee one of the 12 spots in the field for the 2013 Ford World Men’s Curling Championship, presented by Booster Juice, March 30-April 7 at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre in Victoria. Morozumi led Japan at the 2004 World Junior Men’s Curling Championship in Harbin, China and the 2009 Ford World Men’s Curling Championship in Moncton, New Brunswick.
