Job Summary

The General Operations Manager will be critical for the long-term viability and the day-to-day effectiveness of the Barrington Regional Curling Club. The quality of the club starts with excellent ice conditions and extends to sound financial stewardship, effective contract staff and volunteer management, successful events coordination, productive facility marketing, and top-notch customer service for current and prospective club members and customers. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the General Operations Manager will be the primary link in a dynamic workplace with high expectations.

g. A solid understanding of the sport of curling, the importance of superior ice conditions and what is required to maintain them.
h. Creative and entrepreneurial in relation to generating revenue.
i. A solid working knowledge of refrigeration, alarm, filtration, and dehumidification systems.
j. Proficient computer skills.

Primary Responsibilities
a. Implement day-to-day ice operations, ensuring a high-quality playing surface for all league play,
day programs, rentals, bonspiels, and other functions as required.
b. Coordinate, supervise, schedule and train volunteers for ice installation, maintenance, and removal.
c. Support volunteers in the management and delivery of club programming.
d. Maximize club revenues through promotion of facility rentals, sponsorships, curling memberships and events.
e. Be the primary point of contact between the club and the membership, customers, and general public.
f. General bookkeeping and office administration, including filing, communication and related duties.
A working knowledge of Sage Accounting Software is an asset.

Qualifications
a. The preferential candidate should have at least five years of experience, preferably in recreational club or
facility management; or at least two years of experience as a curling club manager or curling ice technician
or equivalent.
b. A Level 1 Ice Technician Certificate or equivalent experience is required. Willingness to upgrade certification through training offered by NSCA/Curling Canada is an asset.
c. Curling coach/instructor qualifications will be considered an asset.
d. Have or willing to obtain Emergency First Aid CPR “A” (or higher) and AED.
e. Have or willing to obtain Nova Scotia Serve Right Certification.
f. Have or willing to obtain Food Handlers Certification.
g. Providing Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector checks will be a condition of employment.

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications,
with an annual salary in the range of $27,300 and $35,300.
