Major job Description:
Installation and daily maintenance of curling ice, monitoring of facility and management of ice staff starting in September for 2023-24 season.

The Head Ice Technician is an 8 month seasonal contract position requiring an extensive time commitment during September to April curling season. Hours may include weekdays, weeknights and weekends.

Qualifications for the job:

Education:
Curl Canada Level 1 Ice Technician
Curl Canada Level 2 Ice technician

Experience:
Experience in chilling and refrigeration associated with ice plants.
Previous experience in curling ice maintenance services and minimum (3) years of experience in making curling ice.
Physical requirements:
Ability to lift and carry 60 pounds.

Other:
Drivers Licence and Vehicle required for pick ups and errands as required.
Occupational First Aid.
Review the safety manual for all work procedures – ie ammonia evacuation, bump tests, draining chiller oil, spills, etc.

Duties and responsibilities:
All functions related to the start-up of the ice, including preparation of the ice surface (cleaning, etc. as required), laying down of dividers, setting up of the seats, ordering of ice paint, use of personal vehicle as required and any other functions related to the initial start-up.
All functions related to the shutdown, removal of the ice surface and clean up of the ice surface at the end of the season. This includes plant shutdown, removal of the ice, removal of the dividers, removal of the rocks, drying and cleaning of the ice surface and any other duties related to the removal and cleanup procedures.
Daily ice maintenance as necessary, including scraping, cleaning and pebbling as well as recognizing the need for extra measures to provide consistent curl, consistent keenness, cleanliness and safety of the ice surface. Washing and flooding of the ice as needed (minimum of every three weeks).
Daily plant inspection and daily opening and closing of the Club facilities as required. Maintain a daily log of all maintenance required and performed in the club; e.g. log of refrigeration units.
Cleaning of the carpets in the ice area a minimum of once per day and more often as conditions dictate.
Maintenance of all equipment relevant to the ice making process.
Maintain curler amenities in ice area including drinking water, tissues, garbage containers, etc.
Prepare ice for special events such as bonspiels and special competitions.
Training, scheduling and supervision of all assistant ice staff.
Ordering and collecting of cleaning supplies including tissues, paper towels etc.

Salary is negotiable based on Education, Skill and Work Experience.
